Tous les éléments dans la nature ont une période de gestation et doivent suivre les étapes de leur évolution propre. Chaque être humain doit passer par différents stades de développement avant d’atteindre finalement sa maturité. La Nature ne prend pas de raccourcis ; il existe un ordre naturel et non forcé pour tout.
Les coaches, joueurs, parents et administrateurs devraient s’inspirer de la sagesse de la Nature. S’impatienter et forcer le développement d’un jeune joueur au cours du processus d’enseignement et d’apprentissage débouche souvent sur de piètres performances des joueurs plus âgés qui étaient prometteurs plus jeunes. Les coaches ont besoin d’un plan ou modèle d’entraînement qu’ils peuvent parfaitement adapter aux aptitudes motrices et réceptrices de leurs joueurs.
Pour travailler de concert, et non en opposition, avec le développement corporel et mental de la personne, toute compétition, tout programme d’entraînement pour jeunes doit respecter les lois de la nature et la condition physique et mentale du moment du jeune participant. A la maturité de l’enfant, les matchs qu’il dispute devraient devenir graduellement plus difficiles et complexes. Dans un schéma bien structuré, les jeunes joueurs grandissent au même rythme qu’augmentent leurs compétitions en complexité et difficulté.

Les pratiques actuelles de coaching

La plupart des joueurs, sans distinction de nationalité, ne savent pas puiser dans ou se servir de leur potentiel qui demeure non utilisé et dormant. Malheureusement, les meilleurs coaches ne travaillent pas avec les jeunes parce que coacher ceux-ci ne leur rapportent pas assez. Les entraîneurs ayant une plus grande connaissance et expérience sont, par contre, attirés par les équipes seniors qui peuvent se permettre de leur payer des salaires élevés. Cet échec pour séduire des coaches qualifiés signifie pour les jeunes joueurs des écoles et des clubs un risque d’être exposés à un enseignement ennuyeux et de piètre qualité. Dans la plupart des cas, les enfants sont dirigés de la même manière que les adultes sans tenir compte de l’ordre naturel et progressif du développement du jeune joueur. Les schémas rudimentaires et amateurs qu’adoptent la plupart des entraîneurs ne résolvent pas le problème délicat d’assurer un coaching de qualité.

De plus, entraîner les jeunes aux stades initiaux est trop important pour le développement futur des joueurs que pour permettre aux coaches d’assembler hâtivement des méthodes d’entraînement particulières.

Introduire trop tôt des activités complexes

Le problème des méthodes d’entraînement et de compétition est qu’elles utilisent des matchs et des situations de jeu complexes avant que les enfants ne soient prêts pour celles-ci. Même les jeunes jouant à la moyenne du club ratent une action sur trois ; donc nous devons admettre que le football est un sport compliqué. La recherche a montré, en général, que plus le joueur est jeune, plus haut est le pourcentage d’échec en compétition. Un taux de réussite bas (moins de 50% d’actions réussies) est observé quand des joueurs de 8 et 9 ans jouent seulement à 7 par équipe (7 contre 7). Les joueurs font face à d’innombrables difficultés et problèmes complexes même dans un jeu avec une équipe réduite. Dans une compétition à 11 joueurs par équipe, il a été noté qu’une équipe perdait la possession de la balle quatre à six fois en une minute de jeu, ce qui revient à 40 secondes de jeu effectif !

Les jeunes joueurs ne doivent pas être critiqués pour leur taux élevé d’actions infructueuses.
Si les enfants ne sont pas amenés graduellement et progressivement vers l’objectif, nous devons constater qu’ils le manquent fréquemment, pas seulement au football mais aussi dans d’autres activités physiques et mentales. Dans la compétition et les entraînements actuels, les enfants sont confrontés à des situations de jeu qui sont hors de portée de leurs capacités psychomotrices. Soumettre des enfants à des activités trop complexes avant qu’ils ne soient prêts, ne peut que renforcer l’échec et la frustration. Quand les personnes expérimentent des revers fréquents, ils ne perdent non seulement l’intérêt et le respect de soi mais peuvent se sentir incapables de faire face à des situations qui, dans le fond, sont beaucoup trop difficiles et complexes à gérer à ce moment-là. Le stress et l’abandon peuvent en être le résultat.

Trop demander aux jeunes joueurs

Les jeunes joueurs se démènent non seulement pour surmonter la complexité du jeu mais aussi les exigences croissantes demandées pendant un temps restreint d’entraînement et d’attention personnelle prodiguée. Le fait que de plus en plus d’enfants se consacrent au football – mais avec moins de temps et espaces disponibles pour eux – interpellent les coaches et les joueurs. Enseigner et apprendre le football, ainsi que de jouer en match, d’une manière traditionnelle ne stimulent pas suffisamment le physique et l’esprit des jeunes joueurs et beaucoup de leur talent est laissé en friche.

Jouer avec la balle un maximum de 90 secondes dans un match complet ou être actif moins de 15 minutes à une séance d’entraînement de 90 minutes, ne permettent pas aux joueurs de développer leur potentiel total. Malgré cela, ils sont mis sous pression et on attend d’eux des performances de haut niveau. La conséquence est une tension accrue sur les aptitudes et capacités mentales et physiques des jeunes.
